If you have been reading our reviews then you know one of the places we love is a place called “Sisters Thai”.  We have been to the Alexandria location multiple times and have always enjoyed the food there.  We had been out and about making a stop at McKay’s Books in Manassas and decided to stop at Sisters in Fairfax on University Drive.  I discovered that each location seems to have a different theme, and this location was all about dining in a living room.  The subtitle for the restaurant is” The Living Room Café”, while the one in Alexandria is subtitled, “The Extraordinary Café”, and you are sitting out on main street with a movie marquee as the back drop.  As always, the staff people are a delight and accommodating.  We were sat immediately by the large bookcase filled with a good mix of classics and other reading materials.  The menus are similar in content, with a few differences.

This day I stuck with something I really love, which are the Curry Puffs filled with chicken and potatoes with a house special sauce.  I order them every time I go and was happy to find they were of the same high quality in both Fairfax and Alexandria.  Since I was with a friend, I decided to get an order of the chicken satay with peanut sauce.  They were nicely grilled on skewers, as they should be, minimally seasoned.  Most of the flavor came from the delicious peanut sauce, and let’s be honest the reason you order satay is for the peanut sauce.  My main course was a crispy boneless ducker that is simmered in a beautiful spicy red curry with coconut milk, pineapple, and cherry tomatoes.  Everything about this dish spoke to me.  I love every ingredient in this concoction and I was not disappointed by it.  Red curry with coconut and pineapple just blended so well and played off each other with flavor, sweet and spicy.  If I had one complaint about this dish it would be I wish the duck was cut up or sliced into smaller pieces that were more bite size.  The duck pieces were rather large in size and the best way to eat this would be to remove the duck, shred it, then put it back in the bowl of red curry.  It’s a small complaint and would not deter me from ordering this again.

I finished my dinner off with their version of strawberry shortcake.  It came with fresh strawberries in between the cake layers with plenty of cream as well.  The cream between the layers was flavored with strawberry and the cake was moist, baked to perfection.  Another winner in the dessert department of Sisters Thai.  If you are ever near one in the DMV, don’t hesitate to stop buy, even if it’s just for a cup of coffee and one of their delicious, sweet offerings.
