New Haven pizza has been around about 100 years, when Frank Pepe opened his place in 1925 in New Haven, CT. Before having a brick-and-mortar store he used to sell his pizza by pushcart. When I heard that Frank Pepe pizza, official name is Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana, I was ecstatic. I’ve been wanting to try Pepe Pizza since I first heard about it on the Food Network. I went there with a friend one Wednesday evening. At first, we were just going to order a couple of medium pizzas, but I was afraid that medium would have been too small, so we ordered two large. I was completely wrong, and the tell the truth we probably could have gotten away with two small pizzas. A single large would have been more than enough for two people, but I wanted to try the different toppings. We ordered one large with Chicken, Ricotta, and Garlic, and a second large with Pepperoni, Meatballs, and Sausage. This pizza was flat out delicious, from the crust and sauce to the quality toppings used at Frank Pepe. You will pay a little more for the pizza, but when you use quality products like San Marzano tomatoes, I for one am willing to pay that extra cost. It might be a little hard to get in if you want to dine in, but if you go before 5PM on a weekday, you may not have a long wait. Frank Pepe, I’ll be seeing you again soon because there are many different combinations I want to try.
