I was supposed to try Sushi Garage, another recommendation from a friend, but when I arrived it was closed. It was a Monday and apparently they aren’t open so I called an audible and tried an unassuming seafood place, Stiltsville Fish Bar (SFB), a block away. SFB was a fantastic accident. They have a few outdoor tables but they have an open air feel inside with the large open/garage feel so you get that nice air flow on a cool evening.

Their menu is great. I found myself stuck as to what to order but the waitress brought the happy hour menu and I immediately knew I’d go with a bunch of happy hour small plates. I decided to get a happy hour cocktail which is rare for me because I rarely drink. But I was in Miami so why not? The “dark and stormy with a touch of snow” Gosling’s rum, malibu, lime juice, and ginger beer and it was on point.

The smoked fish dip was ok. It was reminded me of a classy tuna fish with potato chips. I would not get it again but the reason I loved SFB were the next 3 dishes. The local blue crab slider had to be the best crab dish I’ve had. Topped with pickled kohlrabi slaw and horseradish remoulade, there was both a sophistication and simplicity with the slider. Every ingredient shined and yet elevated the crab. The conch fritters were also good. Warm with a touch of sweetness, they also came with a horseradish remoulade dip. I would get them again. The most interesting thing I ordered were the buffalo fish wings. They weren’t nuggets like you might imagine but rather the large pieces of battered fish that had a buffalo sauce that was both spicy and a little sweet. I have nothing to compare them to but I thoroughly enjoyed them if you visit SFB.

For dessert, I got the pecan pie with salted caramel ice cream. I mostly chose this dessert because I wanted ice cream. I love pecan pie but I didn’t want a substantial dessert. As it turns out, their pie is actually more of a tart which paired well with the ice cream.
