As you can imagine, tacos are a big focus at T&T and that’s where I’ll begin. So far I’ve had 10 of their tacos: crispy pork belly, chicken diablo, mahi mahi, fried shrimp, birria, chicken achiote, fried chicken, fried fish, bulgogi, breakfast. What I appreciate most is the variety of proteins they offer and how each taco has sauces and/or accompaniments that complement the protein. You also have the option of flour or corn tortillas but I’ve only had the corn. My favorites are the fried fish, fried chicken, and chicken diablo.
For starters, they have a number of good options. The empanadas are probably my least favorite, however. They’re perfectly okay but not imaginative or particularly memorable. I’m a sucker for T&T’s street corn. You wouldn’t think corn on the cob smothered in mayo and parmesan cheese would be good but you would be wrong. Those who know me are not surprised that I’ve had their pork belly nachos. I think the concept is great but I think the ratio between queso blanco and the tangy gochujang sauce should be recalibrated in favor of the queso. Gochujang is great but it can overwhelm the queso. My favorite starter is the queso blanco. For me, queso can make or break a Mexican restaurant and I’m happy to see their queso is excellent. It’s a bit on the thick side but I prefer it to be a little thick rather than too runny.
Of the main (non-taco) dishes, I’ve had their taco salads and chilaquiles and recommend both. Like nachos, if I see chilaquiles on the menu, I’m probably going to try them. T&T has a brunch menu where you can sometimes find the chilaquiles and I think they’re a great deal. With lightly-fried tortilla chips, red salsa, cheese, pulled chicken, a fried egg, and onions, this was a comforting, simple, and familiar dish. It’s a little heavy but I applaud restaurants that offer chilaquiles. T&T’s taco cobb salads are a good option as well. Each bowl is filled with your choice of protein, guacamole, pico de gallo, hardboiled egg, shredded cheddar cheese, and ranch. I love breaking the shell and scooping up the salad to get a little bite of everything. I’ve had the ground beef and grilled chicken and, surprisingly, I prefer the ground beef. I think it’s a great option if you’re not going to have their tacos.
The desserts are a bit underwhelming at T&T. The dessert empanada was overcooked and the tres leches cake was forgettable. If I were to order any of the desserts again, I’d go with the churros which were fine. Desserts are one area I’d like to see T&T elevate their game. Restaurants that have interesting desserts and appetizers, in my experience, tend to have really good main courses. Take the time to give your customers a great experience from beginning to end.
Overall, I plan to go back to T&T. It’s close to where I live, and they have plenty of options to satisfy whatever I’m craving. During warmer months they have a great outdoor area which is a great place to enjoy a relaxing evening with friends.
