I originally found out about Wooboi Chicken (WC) from a Facebook group I joined near the beginning of the pandemic that was highlighting local restaurants and their food to boost takeout sales when indoor dining was closed. I’ve passed it several times because it’s on the same block as my go-to Thai place, Sisters Thai. After hearing about it more than a year and a half ago, I finally went.

WC’s has a fairly simple menu. They have tenders, several different chicken sandwiches, and chicken & waffles. But first, let’s talk about the fries. I had looked at the menu online and they had these things called “choi fries” which, when I walked in, were not on the menu. I asked about them and immediately they knew what I was talking about. Choi fries are a generous heaping of waffle fries topped with pickles tomatoes, shredded cheese, slaw, mumbo sauce (or was it ketchup?), and a honey mustard. I can’t decide if I loved them, but I didn’t hate them. I ate the entire thing, but it was easily enough for two people to take on. One thing that would have improved them for me would have been less sauce. The sauce tastes good but if you put sauce on my fries (I prefer to dip), I don’t want the sauce to predominate.

For my main dish, I got tenders (not a surprise) at level 2 (or medium) which is their third level since the lowest one has no spice at all. Level 2 level was perfect for me. There’s a definite kick and lingering heat but it doesn’t overwhelm your palette. Their chicken is super moist, the tenders are extra-large, and the breading is flavorful. I like that the breading is minimal, but it does tend to flake off a little bit which isn’t ideal. I also got three dipping sauces with it, the mambo, honey mustard, and comeback sauce. I liked all three but favored the honey mustard and comeback sauce.

Overall, I enjoyed my experience. I definitely plan to return to get a few of their sandwiches and maybe even get an order of choi fries to share. I think it’s an interesting establishment that makes tasty chicken that is worth your attention. It’s a little pricey but not prohibitive by any means.
